If you are new to an area, Google is a fantastic starting point to find out if an area in suitable for what you are looking for.  Do you need a primary schools or Secondary schools?  Do you need to be close to a station or would you prefer a more rural outlook.  Whatever you need, the internet can provide you with this information, but the knowledge and guidance of someone who has actually lived there is invaluable and personal.

When you have seen a property you are interested in it is often best to check out the road and area at different times of the day to see how the area changes with the time of day.  Look out for things like; what traffic is like, what is the parking availability, is there good lighting?
